I have a choice. You?

I have recently heard that an adult makes on average 35,000 decisions a day. I have probably heard that before, but it sank in this time. 35 thousand decisions sounds overwhelming. Especially when we do not notice taking them, when we are sleepwalking through our lives. With all the news, social media, busy lives in the city, it's so overwhelming.

But that's not what I felt when I thought about the 35 thousand decisions a day. I heard 35 thousand opportunities a day to chose consciously. To start afresh: small or big things. (In the end, also big things are made up of many small ones.)

To smile more. To drink my coffee black. To listen to my heartbeat before falling asleep. To take the longer route for my jog. Look at the rain fall in the distance. Feel joy when looking at the colourful foliage. Notice my cat allergy has subsided. There is so many beautiful choices we have every day. Every day is an opportunity to shift gears, change direction, start afresh. 35 thousand opportunities a day, how beautiful is that?!

I heard a quote recently: At the end of our life, the person you have become will meet the person you could have become.

A moment when we'll probably think about all the missed opportunities to be courageous, to stand up for what matters, to laugh off a mishap, to hold our loved ones a few seconds longer. To add more life to our days with an open heart, without worrying the number of days in our lives. I have that choice. So many times a day. You?
