Journey towards inaction

Maybe the term 'journey' has become overused. And so has the word 'impact'. You can find alternative: like 'process' or 'effect'/ 'outcome'. That's just a word game. It's still a fact that you don't wake up one day and know everything about impact. It's a journey after all! ;-)

We are on a collective journey to reimagine ourselves, reframe our relationship with others and the environment and (hopefully) avert some of the crises awaiting us. The crises are systemic and we are all just an individual each, you could say. Don't forget: a tidal wave consists of many small drops. We each have tremendous power. And when we come together, we will be very impactful.

I suspect we have all seen many Davos reporters on social media these past days. Thank you for all the great content! And then I thought about the exceptional people who were not at Davos: the teachers of our kids. The sensei from judo class. The fellow moms who volunteer to organize the library for kids at school and make the social connections for newcomers happen. The kind and soft leaders like Jacinda Ardern. There is so much goodwill, there is so much servant leadership around. We just often look in the wrong direction when searching for answers: looking at formal leaders around us, instead of ourselves and the quite leaders behind the scenes.

I choose to have faith in humanity. I know we will come together eventually. It may be too late, but I hope it won't. We are still allowing the fire to get bigger, going about our business as if all the norms and beliefs guiding our actions were just fine, until we get burnt and swing into action. Well, better inaction: come to a halt, unlearn, listen, take in the beauty of our world and the working of nature in awe. Appreciating the abundance of the immaterial, contenting ourselves with much less material wellbeing. Giving the brain a break, allowing the heart and intuition to gently guide out actions. That's the journey towards impact we're collectively on. Where are you on this path? How do you take others with you? Let's bring our drops together, see how much of a tidal wave we already have!
