Presence: urgent and important

I heard the other day that slower melting ice cubes made of Arctic ice are chilling the drinks on some lucky few in the United Arab Emirates. And then earlier today watched a documentary about mining seabed nodules for their rare earth contents. Things that took millions of years to build, we consume in a split second. How come we do not sense the silent scream of our precious ecosystem?

And now: Storm Isha is heading to town.

Is there is a reason to be upset? Our senses are muted. It is crystal clear that our species has gotten in the way of its own thriving.

We've become so preoccupied with the (seemingly) 'urgent' that we have collectively lost view of the 'important'. So what is important?

Important is not to turn a blind eye to the realization that we're in this together. If we do not all win, we all loose. To send a positive thought to a stranger to looks worried. To smile at anyone whose eyes we meet. To forgive ourselves. To allow the sense of oneness to emerge. To be present. To celebrate this miracle, called life, in all its precious forms.

By embracing the important, maybe the 'urgent' will shift. Maybe other things are more urgent than we thought...things like laughter, empathy, humility, intentionality or connectedness. And maybe most of all: presence. Sounds easy, right?

Then let's get on with it ;-)
