Taming the elements

eszterfuleky

It's winter. Rainy. The sea is choppy. The wind gusts almost knock me off my bike. (Question to self: How can we be to intelligent, but not be able to tame the elements here on Earth?)

The sea forms the shore, the river carves the landscape, the sun gives life and takes it.

Water replenishes but also drowns. The elements are in a constant dance, in a flow, always changing, never exactly the same again. They have no intentions, no consciousness. They simply are. They have been here before us and will remain after.

Observing the elements made me think of us, humans. We have intentions, consciousness. It gives us power - and responsibility. How are we using it? Has it deprived us from our ability to just be?

We are at a moment in history that flabbergast many of us. We may want it to go away. But humanity is maybe an element itself. Actually, many elements. One actor may 'win' over another one at a moment in time. One ideology grows, other shrinks. If you take a few steps back, all these shifts are like an interplay of the elements. There is no absolute winner, the tides will eventually turn (and turn, again). It's like a dance of the wind, or a storm, but the movement will not stop for a long time to come.

The elements do not fight each other, they follow the path of least resistance to progress. What can we learn from it? Can we allow ourselves to not judge or negate each other, instead look for openings, for similarities, and where we see none, to shift in our direction and flow happily on? One lifetime is finite. Life itself however so so much greater than that. Life is that little bit of stardust in all of us, the energy that makes our heart beat, the collective intelligence of the community of life, across species. If you have zoomed out enough to see that, then the current situation (and any situation, really), is rather insignificant in that context. The density of the 'worry particles' thins and light comes through again. I am ready to embrace the parts, the shadows, they are part of the whole. No need to give them too much importance, notice the opportunities instead: to flow through your days with playfulness and joy. Feeling in your element, yet? ;-)

Failing big time...

You could say, what a strange timing with the holiday season, why talk about failure? My point is, it's exactly when stakes and emotions...
