Wealth...in times like these

There is a lot going on in the world, huh? Interest rate hikes, inflation, energy prices through the roof, shortages in the labour market, decreasing consumer confidence, war in Ukraine (war in Europe...), social polarization, extreme weather events, the persistence of the virus that caused a pandemic, just to name a few. So how do we measure our wealth in this context? Is it a purely monetary value? (Well, that's losing value these days....)

I balance my wealth. My wealth is my well-being, my physical health, sense of (psychological) safety, access to sanitary, healthcare and other (public) services. My opportunity to be surrounded by people I care for and who I can support. Who I receive a lot of love from. My ability to hop on a bike and be in a green an serene setting in less then 10 minutes. The chance to stop for a moment and take in the beauty of my surroundings, to be grateful for life, for my life. My wealth also has a monetary component, but that's by far not the only one. Much of my wealth is given to me by nature, by other people, by the elements. It hit me the other day that if I want to maximize all elements of my wealth, I ignore the balance that is naturally present if I take a step back and take a holistic view. I overuse, overconsume, deplete. But by seeking the balance, and connecting with all aspects of wealth and well-being, I can enjoy a self-replenishing, natural, sustainable wealth. And then, there was calm and contentment. I wish you a similarly rewarding experience when fining this equilibrium, too!
